Yoshi’s New Island Contest Sponsored By Flipnote Animation Launches In 3 Days

The official Youtube channel of Flipnote Studio 3D (うごくメモ帳 3D) has announced on August 6 via a short clip that the release of the latest installment of the Yoshi game series, Yoshi’s New Island (ヨッシー New アイランド), will be celebrated with an animation contest. The clip, which runs for a quick 36 seconds, shows T. Yoshisaur Munchakoopas (lovingly known as Yoshi (ヨッシー)) and baby Mario (マリオ) in their hand-drawn style glory walking and in Yoshi’s case, eating the enormous Yoshi’s New Island 3DS game and spitting out the announcement.

Yoshi’s New Island follows the story of Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island (スーパーマリオ ヨッシーアイランド). A stork delivers baby twins Mario and Luigi (ルイージ) to a couple waiting in the Mushroom Kingdom (キノコ王国) but the bird has unfortunately sent them to the wrong couple. Realizing its mistake, the stork takes the babies again but has been ambushed by Kamek (カメック). Kamek successfully took baby Luigi but baby Mario fell and ended up in the arms of the Yoshi clan in Egg Island. It’s up to baby Mario and the team of multicolored Yoshis to rescue baby Luigi!

Yoshi’s surprisingly long full name was revealed by Blake J. Harris who found this bit of information in an old character manual of Nintendo of America. Harris has penned the book Console Wars: Sega, Nintendo, and the Battle that Defined a Generation.
